7 easy tips for better focus

(this will help you concentrate when studying)

Focusing is hard for me.

Always has been.

I used to start my study sessions with the best of intentions.

After an hour or so, I routinely found myself lost on the web.

I know I’m not the only one.

As this can become a major pain point in your college life, I’ll share a few tips.

Let’s go!

  1. Pen + Paper

The physical act of writing will help you concentrate and memorize your lessons.

The actual act of forming letters with your pen can provide some stimulation that helps fight boredom and improve focus.

(this can be especially true for some folks with ADHD)

  1. No music

Actually, I should have said no music with lyrics.

Lyrics will steal your precious focus.

Go for something a little bland actually.

  1. Clean Environment

Is your desk a mess?

Did you make your bed?

I know it sounds a bit too simple, but it’s true.

If your environment is cluttered and stuffy, so is your mind.

Let some fresh air IN.

  1. Set aside your cell phone

It’s just too tempting.

You’ll use FOMO as an excuse to go on social media.

Or reward yourself with a short game.

(It won’t be short. You know it).

  1. Use a 90 minute timer

For me that’s the ideal duration.

After 90 minutes my performance will degrade.

That’s when a 15-minute pause will restore my stamina.

Go for a short walk outside.

Or better yet, do the next 2 points in the list.

  1. Stay hydrated

Sounds a bit stupid?

Of course, you’re probably not dehydrated.

At least to the point where it it’s unhealthy.

But leaving your desk now and then and taking a few gulps of ice-cold WATER will purify your mind.

You’ll feel sharp and fresh.

  1. Stretch regularly

stretch every now and then

Sitting all day long is terrible for your posture and we all know it.

So get up and stretch your back, glutes, hamstrings and calves.

Go for a good 5 minutes.

Take 6 long breaths for each muscle group that you’re stretching.

You’ll feel your stress melt like ice in the sun.

And you’ll resume your studying with a feeling of relaxedness and ease.

(if you don’t know how to stretch, you’ll find plenty of videos on youtube)
